Ardi Anatomy and essential morphology (What did Ardi look like?)
“Ape like” body- not quite human like but not quite chimp
Ardipithecus is a genus of an extinct hominine that lived during the Late Miocene and Early Pliocene epochs in the Afar Depression, Ethiopia.
Ardipithecus has:
o Extremely large limbs
o Large hands- very large hands which suggested climbing/griping trees
o Large feet with opposable thumbs which also suggested climbing/griping trees
o More narrow pelvis, suggest arboreal locomotion
o Larger lower back bone
o Skull- lack mastication-intensity- this means they had less muscle because they didn’t have to chew as hard.
o Jaw and nose/mouth protrudes beyond what yours does-kind of like a chimpanzee
o Small brain
o Males were typically larger than females
