Welcome fellow hominins!

Human Paleontology is the study of human evolution through the understanding of fossils left behind from our ancestors.  It helps us learn more about where we came from, who we came from, and what types of "humans" came before us. Learning about our ancestors helps us understand more about who we (Homo sapiens sapiens) come from.

Come meet some of our earliest ancestors from as far back as more than 4 million years ago... all the way up to our closest ancestor from just 200,000 years ago.

All of our ancestors remains could be found in Africa with the exception of Homo sapiens neanderthalis who was found primarily in Europe.  Other species of Homo like Homo Erectus could be found outside of Africa all the way in Asia!

What Makes Us Human?

As humans or Homo sapiens sapiens we have the largest cranial capacity of all of our ancient ancestors.  All this brain power allows us to make advanced tools, art (that's right, the cave art was us!), form culture and language.
